Groups & Scoring

The below description is under the assumption that there are enough entrants to require splitting competitors into 3 groups.

Day 1 – All competitors are split randomly into 3 groups, and each group flies the same task 20 to 30 minutes apart. The winner of each of those groups gets 10 points, second place gets 8 points, third gets 7 points, etc. At the conclusion of the day with final scores from each group available, The top third of pilots (ordered by points scored) are placed in ‘Group A’ for the following day. The remaining two thirds are evenly split into 2 groups, titled ‘B’ and ‘C’.

Day 2 – The 3 groups now fly the same task, again 20 to 30 minutes apart. The winner of Group A scores 10 points, second place gets 8 points, third place gets 7 points, etc. The winner of each of groups B and C score 7 points, second place 5 points, third place 4 points, etc. Once all groups have completed the task, the total points scored by each pilot over both Days 1 and 2 are totalled, and a new Group A (top third of pilots is formed). Again, the remaining two thirds of competitors are split evenly into groups B and C.

The procedure for Day 2 is now repeated until the end of the contest, with groups being re-formed daily based on the total number of points each pilot has scored since the beginning of the contest. On the final day, the winner of each group scores an extra bonus point.
